The Dreamliner is the only aircraft in Eva Air’s fleet equipped with this latest seat design. The seat was developed by manufacturer Designworks, part of the BMW Group, and is a forward-facing. I booked a one-way economy class flight on Eva Air from Los Angeles to Taipei (LAX-TPE) using 32,500 United Airlines miles + $2.50 in taxes. I got to the airport a few hours early and was able to talk a kind Eva Airlines agent into assigning me an exit row aisle seat. The flight from Los Angeles to Taipei was a whopping 14 hours.

The Eva Air Boeing 777-300ER (773 Extended Range) was in a 3-3-3 configuration in the Economy Class cabin.

I took my exit row aisle seat 45H and there was plenty of legroom.

I was shocked that there was an economy class amenity kit containing headphones, an eye mask, and a pair of slippers.

After the flight reached cruising altitude, the flight attendant came by with a laminated placard that said “chicken or pasta” with pictures of each dish. I went with the chicken dish and was pleasantly surprised. The entrée was chicken with curry, rice, and steamed vegetables. It was also served with a cold appetizer, bread, fresh fruit, and a dessert cake. The food was actually delicious and the bread was actually hot!

Two hours passed by and I knocked out for a few hours. By the time I woke up, there was still 9 hours left on the flight. Every hour and a half, a flight attendant would pass by the aisles with a tray of water, orange juice, and apple juice. Packaged savory snacks were also handed out in the same time frame. There was a back galley where snacks and liquids were set up for anyone to grab. I watched a few movies and went back to sleep.

Two hours prior to landing, the flight attendant served a breakfast choice of omelet or pork porridge (jook). I had the pork porridge which was served with a packet of fish floss (flakes), bean sprouts, peaches, and bread. Again, the bread was hot unlike other economy class flights where the bread is rock hard.

There were two things that ultimately made this flight smooth and enjoyable for me, which was an exit row seat with unlimited legroom and no seatmates. It turned out that I had no neighbors sitting beside me throughout the duration of the flight. Unfortunately the armrests didn’t go up due to it being an exit row, so I couldn’t ghetto lie flat (poor man’s business class). I felt real fortunate, as it could’ve been worse. Next time I might not be so fortunate on a 14-hour nonstop flight.
